The role
Are you ready to build something people depend on? Terra is flipping waste on its head — taking the messiest data a company reports and making it the most defensible, with real environmental impact riding on it. We're looking for our first engineer to own the system that does it. You'll write production code every day, work directly with the founders and the customers, and make the architectural calls this company lives with for years.
What you will be doing
- Own the platform end to end, from the web application through the data pipeline
- Architect and implement the agent layer — orchestration, agent management, and evaluation — that reads customer documents, reconciles them, and drafts the reporting built on top
- Take ownership of our codebase, balancing quality, correctness, and speed
- Talk to the people who use Terra and bring what you hear into the roadmap
Our stack: TypeScript, React, Next.js, Convex, Python, and AWS — plus LLM and agent orchestration, structured extraction, and evaluation harnesses for model output.
Who you are
- A senior engineer who still ships daily and wants to keep it that way
- Comfortable making high-leverage calls with incomplete information

- Test-first, and proud of the systems you architect
What you'll need
- Experience shipping LLM and agent systems to production — designing, orchestrating, and managing agents, not just calling a model API — with a habit of measuring model correctness rather than assuming it
- Deep in TypeScript or Python, fluent in the other
- Experience with production systems where correctness and data isolation were non-negotiable, in regulated, financial, or health data
- Having built and run something end to end, at an early-stage company or on your own
Bonus points
- Owning production infrastructure — deploys, monitoring, and cost — on AWS or similar
- Building evaluation tooling or data pipelines for document-heavy workflows
- Time in the compliance, sustainability, or environmental reporting world

- Fully remote, US-based
- You must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis — we're unable to sponsor visas at this time
